It All Comes Down To This!

Posted on May 5, 2011

There will be no bet today. There can’t be. I have no money to bet. 71 days ago I started with $1,141.43. I have posted an article every day since, along with at least one bet on all but four of those 71 days. Throught this entire experiment I have had a propensity to state my dislike for the sport of Hockey (see 3/29/11 article on the Archive page) and therefore the Boston Bruins. Over the course of the last two months I have bet on Hockey 13 times with a record of 2 wins and 11 losses. It has been the reason for my downfall. I have no business betting Hockey, as a matter of fact I don’t think anyone does. I do not care how much of a hockey chrisna you are, there is no way to perdict what is going to happen. The puck just bounces around and finds a home every now and then in the back of the net. I have written about jinxing the Bruins when I decided to stop being a hater and jumped on the bandwagon.

Here is an excerpt from 5/5/11:

God, I hate the Bruins. Am I going to hate them right into a Stanley Cup? Would there be an uprising in these pages if I start to support them and they start losing? What if I did jump on board and the betting black cloud over me continues and they start to lose. One game, two games, three games, oh no! Not again! I think if this were to happen I would get a visit at my door by some rabid Bruins goonie fan that would attempt to rip the mouse from my hand before placing a game seven bet on the beloved black and gold. We’ll see what happens.

Here is one from 5/6/11

So I am putting on my running shoes, chasing down the bandwagon, and leaping on. It’s so lame I know, and I am sure most of you who read this, and are true Bruins fans will tell me the wagon’s full and there is no room for a candy ass like me. Well, if I may say so, I see your point, but I have brought croissants and scones for everyone so that should make it better, right? Anyway, tonights game should be fun to watch, and I must say that playoff hockey is up there on the sports excitement scale. So if gambling on sports has taught me one thing, its that Hockey, excuse me, playoff Hockey, ain’t to shabby. Go B’s.

Here is one from 5/16/11

In the end its the defense that needs to be addressed here, and this should be the teams focus. Tighten things up and maybe they can move on, stay sloppy and they go home regardless of what Seguin or Bergeron does.

However, despite all the happy thoughts and positive thinking going on here today, there is a dark cloud looming. Tampa looks like the better team. Are the Bruin’s going to score like that the rest of the way? Will the mastermind behind the Tampa bench not figure out the B’s attack? Can Tim Thomas stop anything? Is he worn out? Is Tampa just to fast? Remember the Bruins won that game but it was by the chinny chin chin. Tampa has put up 5 goals in each of the two games. The defense of the Bruins continues to give the puck away both in their end, and the neutral zone, which has been dominated by Tampa. They came down and scored in 13 seconds last night to start the game off! That is ridiculous. I am worried about my $135 to win $100 bet on this series and I may have jinxed them after all. But my jinx is no match for the real reason they may lose, poor play on D.

So there you have it. If the Bruins lose I will finish 57-57-1 how bizzarre is that! I have it all riding on Friday night. A win and I have $235 in the Kitty and the betting continues and the articles continue. Lose and I have $0, the goose egg. What will happen then? I am really not sure, but I think it may just be a fitting way to end this thing. In defeat, like a man.

News & Notes

- The site is really f’ed up. Whatever these hosting guys did is messing me up badly. I cannot move articles to the Archive page anylonger as there is to much data and it just wigs out on me. I am typing on a half page right now in all italics. Not sure what this will look like when I publish. Not going to bother with spell check in fear I will lose it all, so my apologies (sp?)

- I played two No-Limit Texas Hold-em games last night during the game. Which is never a good mix by the way. I came in 4th of 5 in the first game after having a big chip lead, then going card dead, and failing on a bluff attempt in the end. The 2nd game had six players and I took it down with good play and some much needed suck-outs at the right time.

- With the site so messed up and having nothing to bet, and playing golf again on Friday, there will be no article on Friday. The first dark day in 71 days. I am sorry, it needs to be done.

- In lieu of no article on Friday take a trip down memory lane and look at the Archive page.

- Once again, I want to thank all of those who check in on this site. It has been really fun to do. I have never watched so much sports in my life, or written anything this long or involved. I know the articles are not long time killers to read during down time at the office, but they do take a ton of time to come up with. I hope you have gotton some enjoyment out of it.

Till next time…
