Nightmare on St. Louis Street!

Betting Massacre The only thing hotter than my picks the last two weeks was the humble pie I got served this weekend.  I started the festivities by picking the wrong horse to take game seven of the World Series.  Yes, I had said I thought the Cards would win the series before the first pitch was thrown, but in typical over-thinker fashion I outsmarted myself.  I then entered a comment to the Friday article on Saturday saying I was betting on two UFC fights.  The first was a 2 to 1 underdog, but I could not see the old Croatian legend Mirko Cro Cop losing to the fat mullet man in Roy “Big Country” Nelson.  Cro Cop had some good shots on Roy, and even landed his famous roundhouse leg kick.  But Nelson’s chin was unreal and he eventually got his huge fat frame on top of Cro Cop and pounded him into a stoppage in the third round.  The other fight was the main event of the evening.  BJ “The Prodigy” Penn versus Nick Diaz.  I was a small dog in this one as well but I was confident.  Every other fight BJ shows up out of shape having sipped to many mai tai’s on the big island.  Also he was going up against a cardio fiend in Diaz, with a ground game to match or even surpass BJ’s.  Diaz pounded BJ out of the UFC as a despondednt Penn ran out of the ring only saying to Joe Rogan, “I am done, I don’t want my kids seeing me like this”.  So at this point I lost $100 on the World Series, and gained $30 on UFC, not to bad right?

Then came my four NFL picks.  I had two 1:00pm bets going and watched in horror as the Dolphins to a 14-3 lead in the 2nd quarter and I was giving 9.5 points!  Not only was this bet over, but I also had selected the Giants in my drop dead pool…yikes!  This quickly turned from somehow rooting for and amazing comeback cover, to just get the win…please.  At the same time I had my best bet pick of the weekend going, and what a pick it was.  The New Orleans Saints would clearly crush the winless St. Louis Rams by two touchdowns right?  They loose outright getting smoked by 10 and never had a chance.  I guess the fact that the Cards were honored at the Rams game could be considered a bit of irony for me?  The Giants end up saving my drop dead pool but lose the bet. 0-2 heading into the 4:00pm games and a loss of $315.  As I am watching the Patriots getting beat up all over the field I am clicking to the red zone for updates on my third NFL pick of the weekend, the San Fran versus Cleveland game in which I am getting 9 points.  San Fran cruises to a 17-0 lead.  It looks like its going to just be one of those days.  The Browns actually decide to tease me a little and have several chances to get within 9 and give me a much needed win, but alas… I lose, again, another $120 gone on that one.  That makes $505 down heading into my last bet of the night.  I took the Eagles -3 versus the Cowboys and I finally get a reprieve.  The Eagles demolish the Boys and I finish the weekend going from $1,217 to $812.

Monday night looms, all hollows eve is upon us and my TiVo will be in full effect as I walk around the neighborhood avoiding other dads who may be inclined to talk pigskin.  Should be in candy sorting mode by kickoff so I think I will be in good shape.  Interesting matchup with San Diego coming off blowing one to the Jets.  They are on the road again and facing the Chiefs in that crazy Arrowhead sea of red.  The Chiefs have comeback a little from a horrid start and this is a division game.  I need a win to right the ship again, and this pie taste awful.

News & Notes

- What is the over under on shots of people in costume for tonights game?  I will set the line at 38.

Bet of the Night

San Diego -3 Vs. Kansas City  Bet $115 to win $100

The crowd is not a factor if you get off to an early lead.  I think the skill players come up big for San Diego and KC’s offense struggles.  Rivers shakes off the multi pick game bug he has been stricken with and eats up KC with over the middle throws via a poor KC pass rush.
